9/18 Weekly Email

Hi all,

I have just a few updates and reminders this week.

September Member Meeting Minutes: I’ve attached a copy of today’s meeting minutes. You can also view a copy on this webpage.

October Member Meeting: UAEA scheduled our October members meeting at the Priest Yard earlier this year, before we knew that the move to the TMOC facility was finalized. Given that the majority of employees are no longer at Priest Yard, we have decided to cancel the originally-scheduled meeting and reschedule it for 5:30am on Thursday, October 23rd, at the TMOC Building 1 Conference Room (ground floor of TMOC Building 1). We hope this time and location will work better for the Parks, Transit, Ranger, Solid Waste, and Fleet members who work on the site (other employees are welcome to attend, but we recognize not everyone wants to be there that early). We are more than happy to still stop by the Priest Yard and meet with Facilities - please reach out if you are a member and would like that. Click on the link above or here to rsvp.

Emergency Alerts: Many employees reported to me that they received an emergency alert notification about a situation at the Tempe Courts on their city and/or personal cellphone this Tuesday. Many people also received an email with similar information. I want to confirm this was not spam - I spoke to Jared Morris in IT who confirmed that the Emergency Notification System has been around for awhile but is rarely used and that this is one of the first times it’s been activated in several years. UAEA requested that the City send out some information about the system, when it will be used in the future, and give people an option to change their contact info if they didn’t receive anything on Tuesday. We also requested that future alerts be specific to people working in different parts of the City - we would prefer if messages were targeted to employees.

October Blood Drive: Vitalant will be doing their next blood drive on October 1st, 8am-noon, at the Escalante Center (2150 E Orange St., Tempe, AZ 85281). Please remember that you are paid at your normal rate if you take time out of your day to give blood - you get that, the ability to do a good thing, and a small incentive from Vitalant all at once. You can register here

Ice Cream Socials: We have two events scheduled this coming week. I’ve attached the list again for reference.

4:30pm on Tuesday, September 23rd, at the Apache PD First Floor Conference Room.

2pm on Friday, September 26th, at the TCA Second Floor Carter Lounge

If you don’t see your work area represented on this list please feel free to reach out - even if we don’t schedule a formal event we’re more than happy to drop off some treats in your breakroom freezer.

Surveys: Just a reminder that we have a few open surveys that we’d like feedback on. These include a survey asking people about their access to computers in their area, a survey asking for feedback on member meeting scheduling and their content, and a survey asking for feedback on our holiday party.

I know it can be difficult to keep track of all of our surveys - don’t forget that you can see all of our active surveys at this page (password is “uaeatempe2024”).

Family Day: One final reminder that Tempe is putting on a “Take Your Child to Work Day” event for employees with children on October 7th. You can find out more information (and sign up) here. The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 19th (tomorrow).

Thanks for a great week, everyone!
