In 2011, Tempe employees came together through a grassroots effort to establish a stronger local voice in their workplace. More than 60 percent of eligible employees signed a petition to decertify the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and establish the United Arizona Employee Association (UAEA) as their exclusive representative.
